Pulham Market Parish Council usually meets at 7.30pm on the second Monday of every month in the meeting room of the Memorial Hall. There are nine councillors who are resident in the village and serve in a voluntary capacity, plus a parish clerk/responsible financial officer who is a part-time paid official employed by the council.

The council's responsibilities include the provision and maintenance of some street lighting, the playing field and its pavilion and play equipment, the Green, the Memorial Hall car park, grass cutting and maintenance of some verges, hedges and the recycling facility.

It also comments on any planning applications in the parish which are put before the local planning authority, South Norfolk Council, and it reviews proposed legislation where it is likely to have a local impact and responds to both local and national consultations on behalf of the parish.

It owns, manages and maintains the Pulham Market Burial Ground for use by parishioners. The council also owns the Memorial Hall, although the building is managed by the Memorial Hall trustees, a registered charity. The council provides and maintains litter bins, dog bins and grit bins, benches and some sign-posts.

Councillors are also proactive in promoting the community's interests, for example holding public meetings on important issues, providing a website giving useful information on the village and representing Pulham Market on other forums.

All this is paid for through the parish precept which is collected from local residents by South Norfolk Council as part of the council tax charge.

Any parishioner can apply to become a councillor either by standing for election or by expressing an interest when a vacancy becomes available.

Pulham Market Parish Council welcomes the public to its meetings and gives them an opportunity to speak on matters of interest, usually before the formal meeting starts. However, once the formal agenda is underway, visitors cannot take part in the debate.

Councillors are always willing to discuss topics put forward by the public. If a parishioner wishes to raise a point with the council, they may contact the clerk or chairman at least ten days before the meeting so the matter may be included on the agenda.

The parish council's AGM is usually held at its May meeting. The dates of all meetings are posted on the council's notice board on the wall of the Old Butcher's Shop at the junction of Falcon Road, and also put in a folder kept on the Post Office counter.

Under the Freedom of Information Act, many council documents are available to the public. Minutes of past meetings and agendas of forthcoming meetings are available here on the website by clicking on the links below, and they can also be found on the notice board or in the Post Office folder. Hard copies can be obtained from the clerk.

While the council responds to planning applications on behalf of the parish, individuals are also able to make their own comments. This can be done by logging on to South Norfolk Council's planning portal at http://www.south-norfolk.gov.uk/planning/index.asp and following the instructions. An Annual Parish Meeting is also chaired by the Parish Council - once a year, usually in April - during which village organisations and clubs are invited to report on their activities. All are welcome.
